The following case studies highlight Battelle for Kids, an organization that provides value-added training for districts, and Williamsport, a school district that has created a value-added training model. Each case study page includes an overview and key elements of the training program and a resources section with links to tools and additional information. For a brief overview of each page, see the descriptions below.
Battelle for Kids
Battelle for Kids specializes in providing districts with the professional development, communications, and research needed to help educators learn to use value-added information to drive strategic school improvement. Battelle currently runs three programs: one with districts across Ohio, one in Houston, and one classroom-level initiative also in Ohio. Battelle employs a unique train-the-trainer model of professional development that offers districts a low-cost, efficient, and effective value-added training program that creates a base of local expertise.
Williamsport
After participating in Pennsylvania's Value-Added Assessment System (PVAAS) pilot program in 2004, district leaders in the Williamsport Area School District became convinced that to successfully implement value-added analysis they first needed a comprehensive value-added professional development plan. To accomplish this goal, Williamsport created a multi-step training model to engage teachers and provide support for implementing PVAAS.
